A bit about me


My name is Aparecida and my surname is Guedes. I`m forty-four. I`m a doctor. I work in a hospital.I`m married and I have a beautiful son.I have short wavy brown hair, a small nose, short neck and rounded face.

I wake up at six o`clock, have a shower a quarter past six and have breakfast at half past six. I go to work by car around a quarter to seven. I work from seven a.m to 7:00 p.m from Monday to Friday. Sometines I work on weekends.

I study English on Tuersdays and Thursdays. I have lunch at midday and have dinner with my family at 8:00 p.m.

Sometimes I watch TV in the evening. I like reading books and my favourite kind of film is horror. I always go to bed at 10:00 p.m.

Software learns to translate by reading up

Most existing translation software uses hand-coded rules for transposing words and phrases. But the new software, developed by Kevin Knight and Daniel Marcu at the Information Sciences Institute, part of the University of Southern California, US, takes a statistical approach, building probabilistic rules about words, phrases and syntactic structures. The pair founded a company called Language Weaver in Los Angeles, US, to sell the software as an automated translation tool.
